Osorno is one of the most active volcanoes in Chile standing along the Andean mountain range. It has a beautifully symmetrical shape and it is a year-round destination. During the summer season you can do different hikes, treks, and even water sport activities in the nearby crystal-clear rivers. Around the nearby Lake Llanquihue, you can also take a tour of the Teatro del Lago in Frutillar and the charming small towns around the area. During the winter, around June through September, you can enjoy winter sports. They have a chair lift that operates year-round so everyone can enjoy the views from the volcano.
It is easily accessible by taking a flight from Santiago to Puerto Montt, and then a panoramic vehicle transfer to your hotel. We recommend Hotel Awa as it offers unique views of the Lake Llanquihue where you can swim or kayak from their private dock.
You can combine this visit with other activities or as you cross by land over to Bariloche, Argentina. As you continue your trip, we recommend staying in this area two-nights minimum, and then do the crossing to Argentina as this takes a full day but the views are so impressive.
